Obituary of Charles W Wilson
Charles W. Wilson, 83, a former longtime resident of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Billerica on Wednesday, July 28. He was the husband of the late Laura “Betty” (Deane) Wilson who died in 2011. It would have been his beloved wife, Betty's 85th birthday.
Born in Lynn and raised in Wilmington, Chuck met his lifelong companion at the Methodist Church, Woburn Youth Group. Chuck was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1955-1958. He enlisted immediately after graduating high school, at age 17. He was stationed at the Panama Canal, then was transferred to Bermuda. Chuck and Betty were married on December 22, 1956. They enjoyed married bliss in Hamilton, Bermuda until his discharge. He began his 37-year tenure at Raytheon Company shortly after his honorable discharge.
In 1960, Chuck built the home he raised his four daughters in on Bedford Road in Woburn. He was employed at Raytheon, where he worked as a Senior Buyer in their semiconductor division until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, he continued to work wallpapering, painting, and various odd jobs at many homes throughout the local area. Chuck was an avid gardener, and he was a lifelong automobile enthusiast.
Chuck is survived by his four daughters, Cheryl McDonald and her husband Roland of Woburn, Carolyn Kostopoulos and her husband Artie of Billerica, Jeanne Woodbury and her husband Todd of Billerica, and Laurie Wilson of Stoneham. He was the grandfather of Sarah Atherton and her husband Ricky, Steven McDonald, Nicholas Kostopoulos, Gianni Penta, and the late Kevin McDonald; and he was the great grandfather of James and Abagail Atherton.
Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Monday, August 2 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 12:00 Noon.
