Obituary of Robert A. Rochon
Robert A. Rochon, 94 of Woburn passed away at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital on Monday morning, December 11, 2023. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Norine (Kiniry) Rochon who passed away in 2020.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Aime and Alma (Babin) Rochon.
“Bobby” as he was known to family and friends, grew up in the North Cambridge French enclave.
Like so many others in the area he spent time skating the ponds and honing his hockey skills. While at Rindge Technical School, he was a member of the 46 -State Championship team, “The Flying Frenchmen.” He also played hockey for the “Boston Junior Pics” and for Northeastern University.
Robert was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. While in the service, he married his love, Norine Kiniry of Arlington and for 68 years they resided in Woburn and raised their three children.
Bob was employed for 30 years in sales and marketing of business equipment prior to his retirement. He served as Treasurer of the Notre Dame French Club in North Cambridge for 40 years. Bob was always involved in sports. He was one of the founders of Woburn Youth Hockey in 1965, coaching and officiating hockey and baseball until the late 1970’s. He continued his passion for golf, “chasing par” into his late 80’s.
Bob was predeceased by his late wife, Norine. Loving father of one daughter Susan and her husband Charles Murphy of Woburn; and two sons, David Rochon of Arizona and Gerald Rochon and his wife Renae of Arizona. Proud and beloved “Papa Bob” to grandchildren, Michael Murphy and his wife Casey, Megan Murphy and her husband Jonathan Nussman, Robert Rochon and his wife Jordana, William Rochon and his wife Katie and Connor Rochon and his partner Tina Kinnerup; and cherished great grandchildren, Lindsey, Luke and Jack Murphy and Reggie and Liam Rochon.
Dear brother of Lorraine Zalesky and the late Edward Rochon and Albert Rochon and survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Bob’s family also would like to thank the Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit staff in Bedford for their kind and compassionate care and the staff and friends at New Horizons Senior Living Community in Woburn where he spent two wonderful years.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10:00 am. Burial will be private.
