Obituary of Joan Schoenfeld
Joan Schoenfeld, 92, of Woburn, formerly of Greenlawn, NY, passed away on Sunday morning, August 13. She was the beloved wife of Edward F. Schoenfeld for over seventy years. Born in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Lomax.
Joan grew up in Queens and attended Dominican Commercial High School, where she learned the skills applied in her secretarial work. Joan’s first job was with the New York Racing Association in the recently built Empire State Building.
Joan met Ed as teenagers in their Whitestone, Queens neighborhood. They married and moved out to Long Island, where Ed worked at Grumman, and Joan made beautiful and loving homes for their family, including her parents and grandfather, who lived right around the corner in Huntington Station for years. As their daughters grew, Joan volunteered at the Community Thrift Shop in Huntington, where her work supported the Family Service League. Joan loved to read and looked forward to Book Club meetings with friends. After Ed’s retirement, they spent their winters in Vero Beach, FL, and in 2014 relocated to Woburn, MA, where they enjoyed the wonderful community of New Horizons at Choate.
In addition to her husband Edward, Joan is survived by two daughters, Janet Mori and her husband Bruce of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and Cathy Costa and her husband Peter of Winchester.
