Obituary of Elsie C. Fields

Elsie C. (Lovejoy) Fields, 78, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 28. She was the wife of the late David E. Fields, Sr. Born and raised in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Everett L., and the late Barbara C. (Berquist) Lovejoy. After graduating Woburn Sr. High School, Elsie married the love of her life and lived in her childhood home on Field Terrace. While raising her two sons, she welcomed and entertained family, friends and neighbors. She was the longtime host of Thanksgiving dinner, and loved entertaining holiday celebrations, birthdays and cookouts. You would often find her working in her garden, which was her quiet passion and meditation. Elsie was a devoted member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for years alongside her mother and brother. She loved the coast and especially York Beach ME, where she would vacation with the family or just take simple day trips with her husband. At the age of 50, she required back surgery that greatly diminished her mobility. Despite this, she maintained her trademark positivity. The years that followed would be enjoyed as a grandmother, traveling to see her grandchildrens’ plays and enjoying holidays and get togethers. After losing her beloved husband David in 2012, Elsie continued living at Field Terrace until her move in 2020 to New Horizons, which is located at the site of the old Choate hospital, where she was born. She quickly adapted to her new community and made many friends with the residents and staff alike. She loved competing in the semi-annual cribbage tournaments, a game which she learned from her husband and played throughout their lives. Imagine her reunion in heaven as she strolls up to Dave, who is waiting for her, shuffling the cards, at a table by the sea. Elsie is survived by her two sons, David E. Fields, Jr. and his wife Maura of Franklin, MA; and Adam C. Fields and his fiancée Ellen LaBella of Princeton; four grandchildren, Madeline, Declan, Chuck, and Derek; and two brothers, Everett “Peter” Lovejoy and his wife Deborah of Windham, NH, and Paul Lovejoy and his wife Marianne of Englewood, Florida. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Edward Fields and his wife Linda of Carlisle, William Fields and his wife Beth Ganister of Hamilton; and he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, the late James Fields. Elsie is further survived by 10 nieces and nephews Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Thursday, July 6 from 4:00-7:00 pm.
